Haunted Love and the Scraps An Author Deletes

I mentioned a ghost story I’ve been working on. It’s a paranormal romance and I’m just struggling with the ending a bit before releasing it. I know I want to get it out before Halloween, so I better figure out that ending fast y’all! :)

Anyway, I was on the verge of deleting a small bit of scrap from the novella, and I thought it might be fun to post it here on my blog instead. It’s a private glimpse into the type of things authors bury in their unpublished pile.

The reason this particular bit got scrapped is because I changed Oliver and Stella’s first kiss to another scene entirely, making this intro to a kiss obsolete.

So, without any further fanfare, here is my WIP cover reveal for Haunted Love, along with a scrap of an intro to a kiss scene that won’t make it into the final novella.

Enjoy and happy fall!

A Scrap from Haunted Love

“Get in bed, mon amour.”

We hadn’t agreed to the bed. But I didn’t find myself voicing a complaint as I shifted under the covers. I looked at the light switch. I’d left it on.

He shocked me by walking over and turning it off.

I let out an audible gasp.

“Does that surprise you, Stella? That I can do that?”

“Yes. And it frightens me, too,” I said as I felt the edge of the bed shift under his weight.

He was getting in this bed with me. This kiss was going to be a very big kiss.

I could run. There was still time. He might even let me get away. But at the same time, I knew that I didn’t want to get away. I wanted to be ensnared in his web, even if it meant the end of me.

I felt the covers shift and realized he’d just climbed in bed with me. I could feel the icy coolness of his presence chilling me. My nipples responded as though they’d been splashed with ice water. They strained against the silk of my nightgown, desperate for my ghost.

“I’m frightened, Oliver.”

“Mm. Don’t be.”
